[Press] Ann Mettler on Europe’s energy crisis response

In a recent episode of the Energy Transitions podcast, Ann Mettler, Co Founder of Catalyse Europe, outlines why Europe must rethink its approach to energy security amid renewed geopolitical shocks.

Against the backdrop of a second major energy crisis in four years, Mettler argues that short term “fire fighting” measures risk deepening structural vulnerabilities, including continued dependence on fossil fuels and growing reliance on external supply chains.

“What is truly needed is a system wide, comprehensive approach – one that reduces dependencies, drives home grown innovation, and supports reindustrialisation and rearmament.”

She calls for a more strategic response centred on localisation, diversification and decentralisation, alongside a stronger focus on scaling clean technologies and protecting Europe’s industrial base.

The discussion reinforces a core Catalyse Europe message: energy policy must be treated as a question of security, competitiveness and long term resilience, not only short term supply.
